AWARDS & HONORS
Your contributions to the
lives of young people with your support for The Arts
Experience are reaping rewards for our participants, and
those achievements are getting noticed.
TAE wins state honors: In 2003, Governor Mike Easley presented The Arts Experience with an award from the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service for Western North Carolina at an awards luncheon on August 26th. The awards are given to honor people and groups who show concern and compassion for their neighbors through volunteer service, according to the governor's office. Nine
Who CareIn 2003, The Arts Experience was honored as a finalist in the 9 Who Care awards presented each year by WSOC-TV in Charlotte. TAE wins national award In 1999, TAE was honored with a national award from the American Composers Forum and the National Endowment for the Arts. We were the only site in North Carolina selected to participate as a community partner in a new arts initiative, Continental Harmony. Continental
Harmony, a national millennium project of the
ACF and the NEA, awarded an opportunity for one
community arts organization per state to host a
residency which resulted in a new work written for local
performers and local celebrations. This project involved
community designed and managed composer residencies. In
cooperation with the ACF, nationally acclaimed composer
Ronald A. Nelson was selected to participate with TAE in
this special project. During his residency, Mr. Nelson
wrote an original musical composition for TAE youth
choirs and orchestra, worked throughout the community
with public and private schools, conducted professional
development workshops for area choral directors and
helped local musicians prepare the composition for a
premiere performance.
