HISTORY & MISSION
Mission
The Arts
Experience (TAE), a
national and state award-winning non-profit organization, is
dedicated to building bridges between youth of different
economic and cultural backgrounds through arts education.
The Arts Experience works one-on-one with youth in a
positive multi-cultural learning environment which promotes
understanding, community awareness and self-expression
through the arts.
History
- The Arts Experience
has won national, state and local
awards for their unique
approach to arts education.
- The Arts Experience
has served over 15,000 youth from the greater
Cabarrus county region since its inception in 1992.
- More than 800 youth
representing 41 area schools and 4 counties
participate in our after school cultural arts
programs annually.
- Thousands of school
children benefit from
Professional Development Workshops offered to
their teachers each year.
- TAE partners with
such agencies as The Cabarrus Health Alliance (Teen
pregnancy and AIDS prevention), The Human Relations
Council, Concord Housing Authority, public school
ESL (English as a second language) programs,
teachers and churches to identify and recruit
interested youth.

Added the Cabarrus Children's Choirs to our

Added free
Professional Development Workshops for teachers,
enabling them to receive CEU credit
Partnered with Cabarrus County Schools,
Kannapolis City Schools, Cannon School and First
Assembly Christian School
Moved The Summer Experience - our performing and
visual arts day camp - to Cannon School, Concord
Partnered with UNC-Charlotte to host summer &
performing arts day camps in conjunction with
their summer programs. |

Added the Cabarrus
Youth Oratorio to our programming |

1998 |
Changed the Cabarrus
Children's Choir and Youth Oratorio name to The
Arts Experience Children's Choirs & Youth
Oratorio |

1999 |
Won a national
composer's residency through the National
Endowment for the Arts & American Composers
Forum. We were the only organization in NC to
receive this special millennium award. |

2000 - |
Added The Arts
Experience All County Choral Festival to our
programming |

2001 |
Became a partner in
POST - Partners in Out-of-School Time |

2003 |
Won a Governor's
award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in North
Carolina
Finalist in Nine Who Care Awards - Charlotte, NC
Added Student Art Exhibitions to programming |
